Chapter 12:

Quinn

Quinn woke to a splitting headache. He looked around as soon as his eyes adjusted to the light. He was in a bedroom, and from his position against the wall, he could take in every detail. A large bed stood in the corner with a wooden end table next to it. A modest desk also sat in the room. Books and papers littered the top of it. The walls of the room looked familiar, but he could not say why.

Chains came into view as Quinn shifted his body into a more comfortable position, rattling when he tested their strength.

Nope. Solid.

Why did this keep happening to him? Well, at least the bedroom had a warm fireplace.

The door to the room opened up, and the warlock who had kidnapped him walked in. His blond hair was almost the exact shade of his own. With the hood to his robe down, shadows no longer obstructed Desmond’s face. It was more rounded than Raph’s, but Desmond wasn’t any less beautiful. Why were all of the beings around him so damn good-looking?

Quinn scowled up at him.

“Ouch. If looks could kill,” Desmond said with a smirk.

“Release me,” Quinn demanded, tugging on the chains.

Desmond grunted. “No. You would run.”

“You don’t know that.”

“Oh, but I do,” Desmond said.

“Oh, yeah?” Quinn asked.

“Yeah.”

“Bullshit,” Quinn grumbled.

Desmond raised an eyebrow. Throwing back his head, he barked out a laugh. “I knew I put enough spunk inside of you to keep me entertained.” Desmond walked over to the fireplace. He placed another log on top, and the fire greedily consumed it. “I made you, remember? I know you.”

He’s right, though. I would run.

“Now that you have that out of your system, why don’t we act civil toward each other, hmm?” Desmond asked.

Quinn didn’t have much of a choice. “I… I guess?”

Desmond tucked his hands into his robe’s long sleeves. “You have questions for me.”

“You left him alive, right?” The question came out in a rush.

Desmond sighed. “That’s what you want to ask me? What if I gave you only one question to ask?”

“I would still ask the same question. Now tell me. Raph is alive, right?” Quinn asked for the second time.

Desmond nodded. “Yes, he is alive. However…”

“However? However what?”

“He would’ve come after us right away. I had to damage him internally,” Desmond answered.

Quinn saw red at that moment. Raph was alive but badly injured? He was suffering, and there was nothing Quinn could do about it. He lunged at Desmond. The warlock stood there, calm and collected. The chains rattled but pulled taut just before he reached his target. Quinn cursed. They kept him just far enough away from him.

Desmond was safe from him—for now.

“Calm yourself, little one. I did not do any permanent damage. The vampire will be fully healed in about a month's time.”

“And how would you know that for sure? There’s no possible way—”

Desmond held up a pale hand to silence Quinn’s questioning. Quinn bit his bottom lip. This was a warlock, and he knew how temperamental they could be.
